Jim Mather Track Invitational Wednesday, April 19th 10:00 am start Come on down Wednesday for the annual Arapahoe Jim Mather Track Invitational. This is Arapahoe's only home meet of the year! The first session of field events starts at 10:00am and running events will begin around 12:30-1 pm. The Jim Mather Invite is named after Arapahoe Class of 1936 graduate and track legend James 'Jim' Mather who held the All-Class Long Jump Record at 23' 5" from 1936-1961 before it was broken by Gale Sayers. His jump is still 2 inches longer than the current Class D Record almost 100 years later and is still within 2 inches of both the Class B and Class C Long Jump Record. At the 1936 State Track Meet his Senior Year Jim Mather won the Broad Jump, the 220 yard dash, got 2nd in 110 yard high hurdles, and tied for 3rd in the High Jump. Good enough to earn 4th place in Class C for Arapahoe all by himself. After graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska from 1936-1937 and Peru State College from 1939-1941. On May 31, 1941, he married Donna Joyce Vandruff in McCook. In 1942, he entered the Army Air Corp until his discharge in 1946. He returned to Peru State College and graduated in 1947. After graduation he taught and coached at Franklin, Jamestown and Phillipsburg, Kan., Wymore and Dannebrog and Sunrise, Wyo. He returned to Arapahoe where he worked as a crop insurance adjustor until 1996, when he retired. He had the All Class Nebraska State Long Jump record from 1936-1961 and the Class C record until 1970 and still has the Arapahoe and RVL record in the long jump and 200 meters. Alma Golf Invite Tuesday, April 18th Alma Municipal 10:00am The Golf Team is in Alma today for the Alma Invite. Good luck golfers!!!

Senior Robotics students were needing to test out their newly created solar phone USB chargers that can be recharged by a wall outlet or the solar panels. So we decided to use their maiden voyage to resurrect some classics in an OG Blackberry and an LG Scoop!!! We even recharged our mini-drone batteries with them while we were at it! When the Blackberry first booted up the date was set to 2013 which was probably the last this amazing relic was last used! We also have 3 old 30gb iPod classics in the room we may have to resuscitate as well. Maybe we can use one of them to DJ the Jim Mather Invite with on Wednesday!
